The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning creates liveable, inclusive and sustainable communities that support jobs and growth in Victoria. We recognise the link between the built and natural environment in the quality of our lives, and work to accommodate population growth while maintaining world class liveability and protecting our heritage for future generations.

Our responsibilities under the Parks Victoria Act 1998 are to manage the State’s parks, reserves, waterways and other public land including a representative system of terrestrial and marine national parks and marine sanctuaries. It is also the Local Port Manager for Port Phillip Bay, Western Port and Port Campbell and the Waterway Manager for the Yarra and Maribyrnong rivers.

Pests, diseases and weeds are a constant risk for primary producers, as they can have a serious impact on agricultural production and market access. The department provides information on the prevention, management and treatment of these pests, diseases and weeds.

Invasive weeds are among the most serious threats to Australia's natural environment and primary production industries. They displace native species, contribute significantly to land degradation, and reduce farm and forest productivity. Australia spends considerable time and money each year in combating weed problems and protecting ecosystems and primary production on private and public land.

The Weed Society of Victoria is an organisation for people interested in any aspect of weeds. This might include: terrestrial or aquatic weeds; the biology, ecology, and management of weeds; their place in the environment; their benefits and uses; or their place in history and art.

Working in partnership with the farming community and industry to develop research programs targeting herbicide resistance and to disseminate resistance management messages to encourage sustainable cropping across Australia.

This website was developed to provide a single, user-friendly website through which stakeholders can find access to local, state and national information in relation to Australian responses to current outbreaks of animal (including aquatic), plant and marine pests and diseases.
